The 2016 Peonies Season is almost here!   Bridgewater Gardens, located just west of Saline, Michigan is officially taking orders for peonies wedding flowers for June 2016 weddings. 

In Michigan our peony flower season usually starts around June 1.  Sometimes if we have a warm spring we will have flowers in late May, sometimes in time for Memorial Day weekend.     Since the peony flower bloom is very dependent on the weather we are taking orders for weddings or other special events that take place during the following dates in June:

1) If you are local in Michigan and can pick up your flowers we are glad to accept your order for weddings starting on June 4, 2016 through June 25.

2) For peonies that need to be shipped a couple of extra days is required for shipping and allowing time for the flowers to open so we are taking orders for wedding dates of June 10 through June 25.

It is very possible that we will have some peonies flowers available earlier and later than these dates but it is impossible to predict. Peonies flowers need at least 600 hours of below freezing temperatures each winter in order to make nice peony flowers. We are having some very brutal freezing cold weather right now so we are expecting some fantastic peonies this year. 

If you need flowers for your Michigan wedding this June and are in driving distance of the Ann Arbor area then you are welcome to pick up your peonies and there are no shipping costs.  We are located:

• 15 minutes southwest of Ann Arbor
• 1 hour west of Detroit
• 1 hour north of Toledo
• 1 hour east of Jackson
• 1 hour and 20 minutes east of Battle Creek
• 2 hours east of Kalamazoo

Each year many of our brides do pick up their wedding peonies.  We can have them ready in 5 gallon buckets when you arrive.   For Michigan cities that are not within driving distance we can also ship Fedex overnight to Michigan locations.  Fedex charges within Michigan start at about $35 for delivery or 3 or 4 dozen flowers by 10:30am the next day to most cities within Michigan. For quantities larger than 3 or 4 dozen the cost goes up a few dollars per dozen.

For the 2016 peony season we will begin shipping on:

• June 7 for June 8 arrival for June 10 events
• June 8 for June 9 arrival for June 11 events

We will continue shipping through June 22 for events taking place as late as June 25.

2015 Peony Dates / Season

For the 2015 season we are accepting advance orders for weddings taking place between June 6, 2015  and June 27, 2015.   Its possible we will have peonies outside of those dates but based on the peony bloom in past years these are the dates that we always have peony flowers available.   There are some years where we have peonies in late May, and if the month of June is cool then we could have peonies as late as the first weekend of July.  The peonies are weather dependent and it is impossible to predict the season  until it is well underway.

Peonies Grown In Michigan

Bridgewater Gardens is a Michigan peony farm located in Southeast Michigan not too far from Ann Arbor, MI. The inspiration for our farm comes from the 5 acre peony garden at the U of M Nichols Arboretum. We modeled  our first peony garden after a visit there in 1995.   After that we kept expanding the garden and adding more varieties of peonies. 

In 2002 we had peonies coming out our ears and did not know what to do with them all.  We decided to call some local florists and restaurants to see if they wanted to buy some.  Almost everyone we called wanted to buy some or our beautiful peony flowers.  The next winter we set up a website and figured out how to ship the peonies overnight.

We have planted more and more peony plants each fall since then and today we have somewhere between 6,000 and 8,000 plants.  We have literally lost count at this point.

Our customers include wedding florists and brides and their wedding parties.  
We have also shipped peonies for funerals and we have some regular customers who purchase peonies for their own enjoyment each year.

Each year we have many brides who are having DIY wedding flowers come to pick up their peonies wedding flowers. Sometime if the bride is too busy she will send her family or friends to pick up the peony flowers and that is fine too.

Our peony season in Michigan is the month of June although some years we have flowers in late May and sometimes the peonies season will go into the first week of July.

We are a very easy driving distance of about one hour from Detroit, Southfield, Farmington Hills, Livonia, Dearborn, Jackson, and even Toledo, Ohio.

DIY Wedding Flowers

Make it a DIY WeddingWhen it comes to your wedding day, every corner you turn adds up to another expense.  To save a little cash here and there, why not make it a DIY wedding?  You can do many of the things for your wedding, which also makes it more personal and memorable.  A DIY wedding has become more popular in recent years because it is so much more personal.  By actually doing a lot of the work yourself, it makes it a much more memorable experience for all involved.  Brides are doing everything from their invitations to their wedding favors to their decor.  

One of the most expensive aspects of a wedding is the flowers.  It can add up quickly considering you need bouquets, boutonnieres, decorations, and centerpieces.Why not have DIY wedding flowers?  It does not have to be an overwhelming task, and you can enlist help from your friends and family.  Experiment with some of these ideas and tips and see what works for you.

For the best effect and for the biggest choice of flowers, a rustic theme should be used for a springtime outdoor wedding. At the other end of the scale, you might prefer a little more glitz. Strong colours in the bouquet will make a bold statement that can be enhanced by the addition of a few jewels to your bouquets. 2013 Peony Season

It is freezing cold here in Michigan and we are anxiously awaiting spring and all of the spring flowers.    We are taking orders for the 2013 peony season.    For the June 2013 we will be taking orders for weddings starting Friday June 7.  We normally have peonies through June and often times into the first week of July.

Peonies Wedding 2012 Season

We often get asked if we get repeat customers for our peonies.  Each year we have a regular customers who order peonies for their own enjoyment or for their mom, wife, etc..   In our ten years of shipping peonies for weddings we have not had a bride as a repeat customer for her second wedding.  We do have florists who are repeat customers and order from us every year.  


Yesterday I received an e-mail from Sidnee Barrett, a florist in Charlevoix, Michigan  who ordered peonies from us last June for one of her brides.   She wrote to inquire about ordering more peonies for her June weddings this year. DIY Wedding Flower Advice - From a Celebrity Florist

Most of our customers are brides having DIY wedding flowers.  Some are a little nervous and apprehensive about it but there really is no reason to be.  This article has excellent advice

I am not familiar with the product Crowning Glory but I do recommend the other things that this professional florist suggests and that is practicing ahead of time either with real flowers or if they are not available then silk or artificial flowers, making the bouquets and wedding arrangements a day or two ahead of time, and  keeping the flowers cool.
