Peonies at Christmas ?

We recently learned of another peony grower who has a farm in Chile in South America where it is spring/summer right now. He is flying in peonies from his farm in Chile to his flower distribution facility in Miami.We have thought about maybe partnering with him to provide peonies for our customers around Christmas time. What a great Christmas gift that would be. It is a little late for this year. But who knows maybe for next Christmas we will have a partnership with him where we can provide beautiful fresh cut peony flowers for our customers at Christmas time.

Speaking of Christmas gifts, my husband wants some Cole Haan Shoes for Christmas. I have decided to purchase the Cole Haan Shoes From Zappos. Zappos has free shipping each way. That way if they do not fit him then it is easy to return and there is.

I saw some great styles of Cole Haan Shoes for women also so I think I will look for some shoes for myself.

Peony Flower Season 2011

The fall gardening is officially done and I am thinking about everything we need to do prior to the 2011 peony season which will start for us sometime in early June or possibly in late May like it did this year.  

During the winter time is when I have time to update the website and order our  our supplies for the next peony season.  We always needs lots of boxes and wrapping paper for packing and overnight shipping of the peony flowers.

Fall Has Arrived And The Peonies Have Been Planted

Fall has arrived here in Michigan.  I cannot believe it is the first of November already. We have planted 1000 peony plants during September and October and the fall gardening is done for the season.  We found a peony nursery in Russia that exports peonies to the USA and imported some very rare Red Russian Peonies called Kreiser Aurora.  We are hoping that a few of the plants will make a small flower next spring so we can see what they look like.  Orders for peony roots will be selected and shipped through the first 3 weeks of  November 2010.

Now that the gardening season is over our attention has turned to inside the house where we are looking around to see what needs to be done before winter arrives.  I was doing some online shopping the other day looking for  Dehumidifiers and air purifiers.   There were are so many models to choose from with so many different features that I got overwhelmed and thought I will come back to this later.  After taking a break for a half hour I got back online and narrowed down my selection to 2 models for each  of the dehumidifier and air purifier.

Like most appliances dehumidifiers and air purifiers come in a wide range of prices.  My strategy on appliances of this type is to not purchase the most expensive model and not the least expensive either.   So I usually go for a medium priced appliance so I will be using the same strategy for my search for dehumidifiers and an air purifier.  I am hoping to make my final decision by the end of the week.

Peonies - How to Plant

Peonies Plants / Peony Plants

Bridgewater gardens has been selling fresh cut peonies since 2002.  We are often asked by customers who purchase peonies if we also sell peony plants and roots. On a few occastions we have sold some peony plants in the past but for the most part we have only sold the peony flowers.  For the Fall of 2010 Bridgewater Gardens we will begin to offer regular sales each fall of peony plants.   During the Fall of 2010 we will offered the following peony varieties:

Peony Pink Princess - Single Pale Pink Peony w/ Yellow Center

Peony Edulis Superba - A bright pink or hot pink large peony flower. Below is a photo of pink Edulis Superba peony buds.

Peony Keriser Aurora - A rare red Russian Peony variety

Bridgewater Gardens is no longer in the business of selling peony palnts but you can see the varieties that we used to sell here of the Bridgewater Gardens website.    Shipping of peony plants will start mid to late September and continue through early November or as our root supplies allow.  We will be adding more peony varieties soon so please check back.

When Do Peonies Bloom Where?

Bridgewater Gardens, located near Ann Arbor, Michigan receives requests for fresh cut peonies throughout the year. In Michigan our peonies bloom only during the month of June and sometimes in very late May. We are putting together this list of where peonies bloom throughout all the months of the year.  For more information on peony bloom dates in Michigan be sure to check out our peony page.


January - we are not aware of peonies being in bloom anywhere in the world in January, Februrary, or March.  If you know of someplace please let us know.

April - Southern USA (Arkansas, North Carolina)

Peonies - In August?

We often receive requests for peonies for August wedding flowers. The only place we have ever heard of peonies blooming in August is Alaska wher spring and summer arrive very late. The best thing to do is to search Google with "peonies Alaska" and you should be able to find some peony growers in Alaska.

Ladys Mantle

"Do you sell any other types of flowers besides peonies?" is a question we are often asked by our customers. Up until this point the answer has been no. We did experiment with shipping fresh cut lilacs several years ago. The lilacs did not ship nearly as well as the peonies do so we only shippedthe lilacs for one season.

Begining in 2011 we will offer a limited amount of Ladys Mantle available for local pickup only. We are located about 15 minutes from Ann Arbor, MI so if you are in the area and need Ladys Mantle please cotact us.

We have grown Ladys Mantle as a nice foliage plant in our shade gardens for many years. The leaves are a beautiful shade of green and in late May or early June the plants make spikes of tiny yellow flowers.

Recently a local florist starting purchasng Ladys Mantle from us and she has always told us how Ladys Mantle is the in thing with floral designers right now. That peaked our interest so we planted more Ladys Mantle.

Fresh Cut Peonies

Bridgewater Gardens is a grower of beautiful fresh cut peonies. We overnight ship fresh cut peonies to all parts of the USA in June of each year. Bridgewater Gardens has shipped peony flowers to all 50 states including Alaska and Hawaii.

Our peony season normally begins around June 2 or June 3, although it could be a week earlier if we have a warm spring like we did during the 2010 cut peony season.
